The Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2018

The MIT, Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation, Production Tech, Rubber and Plastic Tech, Information Tech and Computer Science and Engineering.

During the centenary birth year of Sri C. Rajam in 1982, MITAA instituted the scheme of presenting annual endowment lecture and an award for the Outstanding Alumnus in his memory. MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. K. V. Bhima Rao, 3rd Batch of Electronics Faculty as the Outstanding Alumnus for the year 2018.

After his Bachelor’s degree Mr. Bhima Rao joined MIT for DMIT course in Electronics and graduated in 1954. He was first Lab. Engineer in Electronics Faculty in MIT till mid Sept. 1955 and moved to AIR in Broadcasting House, New Delhi and retired as Chief Engineer (SZ), AIR & DD, Madras in June 1991. He served in AIR Stations and HP Transmitters looking after their maintenance and in Planning & Development Unit before being posted in Staff Training Institute (Techincal), to train the techincal staff of both AIR and DD, on a long tenure with breaks for posting at North Zone Regional Office and Srinagar Station. He served both in Eastern Border and in Western Border states of Nagaland and Jammu & Kashmir.

He was awarded a European Broadcasting Union Fellowship and travelled to servel European countries and studied the training programmes for their Radio and Television Engg. and Tech. staff. He had represented AIR in Study Group 5 of the CCIR at ITU, in Geneva. This group addressed Propagation through non-ionized medium.

Post retirement, Mr. Bhima Rao is active in Broadcasting Engineering Society (I), Bangalore Center for which he was a founder member and secretary during its formative years. Mr. Bhima Rao was the President of Bangalore Chapter of MITAA for three terms and is presently its Patron keeping MITAA BC very active and vibrant. He associated himself during the formation of Parent Chapter of MITAA in 1966 and later he was active in Delhi Chapter. He and the first batch auto alumnus Mr. V. Gopalan, started the USA Chapter on 10.10.10., with its base in New Jersey. Mr. K. V. Bhima Rao now lives in Bangalore.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2013

MIT, Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself with pioneering ventures in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical engineering, Automobile engineering, Electronics engineering, Instrumentation Technology and subsequently adding Production Technology, Rubber and Plastic Technology, Information Technology and Computer Science and Engineering.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Dr. K. Sivan of aeronautical faculty, an alumnus from the 29th batch as the distinguished alumnus for the year 2013.

Dr. K. Sivan did his B.Sc. at Madurai University with Mathematics as major subject, later studied at MIT, Chromepet to get his B.Tech degree in aeronautical engineering and passed out in 1980. He started his career with VSSC in 1982 after his Post graduation at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Later he pursued Phd at Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai and got his doctorate in the year 2006.   He worked in PSLV Project up to 1994. His work included end-to-end mission planning, design, integration and analysis and he significantly contributed for building PSLV. Also he developed 6D simulation software, SITARA for simulation on all ISRO launch vehicles.  From 1994 onwards he had been working in Mission Synthesis and Simulation Group (MSSG) and has built a world class state-of-the-art simulation facility in ISRO.

His area of specialization includes launch vehicle configuration and mission design, control and guidance design of launch vehicles, simulation and validation of NGC system and mission integration. Joined as engineer at ISRO, he soared to a position of Project Director GSLV and his current designation is Outstanding Scientist (OS). His awards include, “Shri Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr.Vikram Sarabhai Research Award” for the year 1999”, “ISRO Merit Award for the year 2007” and “Dr Biren Roy Space Science and/or Design Award” for the year 2010”

He has membership of National and International Professional Bodies as Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Systems Society of India, Member, Aeronautical Society of India and Member,  Astronautical Society of India. He has to his credit 40 Publications at National and International Level. His recent publication on ”A Low-Cost Orbiter Mission to Mars” was selected for publication in the International Journal, Acta Astronautica.

Dr. K. Sivan hails from Madurai and happily married to Srimathi Malathi post graduate in Tamil literature and they are blessed with two sons Master S. Sidarth studying in 12th standard and Master S. Sushanth studying in 9th Standard.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2014

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mrs. Hema Gopal of electronics faculty, an alumna from the 30th batch as the distinguished alumna for the year 2014.

Mrs. Hema Gopal did her B.Sc. Mathematics at Madras University, later studied at MIT, Chromepet to get her B.Tech degree in electronics engineering and passed out in 1981. She started her career with TCS in 1985 after passing out M.S. Computer Science Post graduation at IIT, Madras. From one prestigious institute she moved on to most respectful business houses of India, the Tata Group. She joined their budding software house Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and over the last 29 years she has hinged her career to the growth of TCS considered as the jewel in the crown of Tata house. In TCS she has donned various roles in relationship management, delivery management, pre-sales, learning and development, technology excellence and other corporate responsibilities.  She currently is the Vice President having responsibility as the Global head for IBM technologies. She has been in the media very often in recent times. She had been an active sports woman in her college days and has represented University in multiple sports.

She has many credits to her account. The Top women in IT by DATAQUEST for two consecutive years, Rajiv Gandhi National Quality award, Role model technical women by Anita Borg institute, California, USA. Role Model Leader in TCS in DAWN, Banker’s technology award, highly commended status from Financial Times, LONDON, UK, Share conferences, IOD (  Information on Demand) and many.

Mrs. Hema Gopal lives in Chennai. Her husband is a marine engineer. She has two lovely daughters and parents and in laws. She has family’s encouragement, which has been the corner stone for her achieving such dizzy heights in her profession. She likes cooking and spends quality time with her children. She also entertains her friends and colleagues during all religious festivals and enjoys being with others. She has been able to give her best to her profession ensuring good balance at the home front.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2015

MIT, Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself with pioneering ventures in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical engineering, Automobile engineering, Electronics engineering, Instrumentation Technology and subsequently adding Production Technology, Rubber and Plastic Technology, Information Technology and Computer Science and Engineering.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Dr. B. Sundar Rajan of electronics faculty, an alumnus from the 31st batch as the distinguished alumnus for the year 2015.

Dr. B. Sundar Rajan did his B.Sc. Mathematics at Madras University, later studied at MIT, Chromepet to get his B.Tech (Honors) degree in electronics engineering and passed out in 1982. He started his career as Lecturer with IIT Delhi in 1990 after his M.Tech and Ph.D.  from IIT, Kanpur in the year 1984 and 1989, respectively. From one prestigious institute IIT, he moved on to most respectful education institute, IISc, Bangalore in the year 1997 as Associate Professor. From the year 2003, he is serving as Professor at IISc Bangalore. He took leave from May 2004 to July 2005 to take up a specific role as Distinguished Member of Research Staff at Beceem Communications Pvt Ltd, Bangalore for IEEE 802.16’s Task Group e, and co-authored many IEEE documents and patents.

During his service he has received innumerable recognitions and awards from IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IASc (Indian Academy of Science), INSA (Indian National Science Academy), IIT Roorkee, IISc Bangalore, NASI (National Academy of Sciences India, INAE (Indian National Academy of Engineering), IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering) and so on. He has membership with Professional societies like IEEE, IASc, INSA, NASI, INAE, AMS (American Mathematical Society). He also has been in Editorial board of several IEEE journals, He has been Technical Program Co-Chair (TPC) and speaker for many workshops and International conferences organized by IEEE. He has many patents granted (US). He has much more than what we listed here to his credit, which run into pages.

Dr. B. Sundar Rajan lives in Bangalore. His wife is Shree Devi Sundar Rajan and blessed with two daughters Malini and Roshni.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2017

The MIT Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself  in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation and subsequently adding Production Tech, Rubber and Plastic Tech, Information Techn and Computer Science and Engineering.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. KRSR. Krishna of instrumentation faculty, an alumnus from the 33rd batch, as the distinguished alumnus for the year 2017.

He passed his Bachelor’s degree in 1981 majoring Physics at Hindu College, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, ranking First in the University. He did his B.Tech course in Instrumentation in the year 1984 at MIT. Further he pursued PGDBA during 1990-1991.

His 33 years career started at BHPV and includes stints with Bells Controls (Foxboro) India, John Brown Engineering India, Thapar Chemtex, Ralph. M. Parsons International Sultanate of Oman, Stork – Protek-Comprimo Malaysia, Petrofac International Sharjah and Petrofac Engineering Services India Private Ltd. Chennai. Now he is Vice President-Engineering at Petrofac International Ltd. Sharjah.

His experience spans the fields of design, detailed engineering, site supervision and commissioning of Projects related to Oil and Gas industry (both Onshore and Offshore), Petrochemical and Chemical EPC Projects

He is an honorary. Rotarian, advisory committee member of many engineering colleges, Founder Chairman of ” Industry Institute Interface ” Forum and present Chairman of ” PMI E & C Chapter “, Tamilnadu. His philanthropic activities inculde “Jeeva Velicham” for Vision Impaired, “Maithree” for Physically Challenged, “Ekal Vidyalaya” for Rural Developemnt.

Mr. KRSR. Krishna lives in Sharjah. His wife Mrs. K .Padmini a home maker. His daughter Mrs. Chandana Priyanka, an electronics engineer, is married and lives in Bangalore and sone Mr. K. Aditya, electronics engineer, works in India for a Taiwanese company. Singing is his hobby in multi – language viz., Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.

THE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2018

The MIT, Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C Rajam, is a unique Institution and carved a niche for itself in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation, Production Techn, Rubber and Plastic Tech, Information Tech and Computer Science and Engineering.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. N. Ramakrishnan of instrumentation faculty, an alumnus from the 34th batch, as the Distinguished Alumnus for the year 2018.

After completing his B.Sc. degree with Gold mdeal in 1982 majoring Mathematics at Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, Tamilnadu, he pursued his B.Tech course in Instrumentation in MIT during 1982-85. He further did PGDM at Anna Institute of Management.

His career started at Taylor Instruments India Ltd in 1985 and moved on to Eurotherm India Ltd. Soon he become 3rd largest shareholder in the company. He then became an entrepreneur in 1995 by establishing a JV with Precia Molen France as a Founder Promoter cum Managing Director. He has more than 100 employess at various positions to run the business. The Company is regarded as the Best Performer in Precia Molen Group besides retaining market leadership position in India.

Precia Molen France, a pioneer in industrial weighing which has 20 manufacturing subsidiaries and presence over 40 countries. Precia Molen India Ltd engages in CSR activities spending substantial money and efforts for social upliftment, natural disaster, national security etc. Mr. N. Ramakrishnan spends huge money in philanthropic activities regularly through his family – Mangalam charitable trust.

Mr. N. Ramakrishnan lives in Chennai. His wife Dr. Renuka Ramakrishnan is a Dermatologist. She has been awarded ” the woman of the year 2018 ” in the field of medical care & social reforms. His son Mr. R. K. Santhosh is a Business Development Manager in Precia Molen, Malaysia and daughter Dr. R. K. Pratibha is a house surgeon.

It is gratifying to know that many illustrious alumni of MIT covered themselves with glory by their outstanding achievements in engineering and technology and won many coveted national and international awards.

In memory of Sri. C. Rajam, during his centenary birth year in 1982, AMITA instituted the scheme of conducting yearly endowment lecture and award of outstanding alumnus. This would be the twenty-fifth Alumnus award.

AMITA has the pleasure of selecting Shri. B. Sridhar of Automobile faculty as the outstanding Alumnus for the year 2009.

Shri. B. Sridhar majored in Physics from St. Joseph’s college of Bangalore and passed out of the Automobile Faculty of MIT in the year 1976 and pursued Industrial Management, Production Technology from IIT Madras and General Management course form HAL Staff College, Bangalore.

Shri B. Sridhar started his career as Management Trainee with Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, Bangalore and within a short period of two years achieved the distinction of being identified as the officer with high potential for attaining career growth. He was handpicked by the Chairman and Managing Director of BEML to be member of the Think Tank, assisting him on matters relating to marketing and production, personnel, R&D etc. to be the youngest person for such an assignment in the history of the company.

Moved to the Middle East in 1984 with Saud Bahwan Group as Manager Sales covering various products from Toyota, M.A.N and Komatsu. Achieved very high market share and executed several Multi Million Dollar contracts, Promoted as Marketing Manager in 1990 to establish a new division for LEXUS, the luxury car division of Toyota Motor Corporation.

Elevated to the position of Director a few years ago and is presently in charge of the Lexus Division and Hertz Rent a car Franchise. Having delivered consistent growth and profits over the past 24 years, he achieved his success through bold strategic initiatives, excellent CRM and innovating marketing.

Sridhar is happily married to MS. Mallika for over 25 years and blessed with a son and daughter. He has tremendous interest in technology, reading and he is an avid internet buff.

THE OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2010

MIT, Chromepet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri. C.Rajam, is a unique Institution with pioneering ventures in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation and by adding Production, Avionics, Mechatronics, Rubber Technology and Information Technology, MIT has carved a niche for itself.

In memory of Sri. C.Rajam, during his centenary birth year in 1982, AMITA instituted the scheme of conducting yearly endowment lecture and award of outstanding alumnus. This would be the twenty-sixth Alumnus award.

AMITA has the pleasure of selecting Shri. V. Rama Kumar of Instrument Technology faculty as the outstanding Alumnus for the year 2010.

Shri. V. Rama Kumar was always shining academically bright which enabled him to do his B.Sc Applied Science College of Engineering Guindy and move on to MIT to study Instrument Technology and pass out in the year 1974. After a short stint in the process industry joined IIM Ahmadabad to do his MBA Program.

On completion of his MBA program, Rama Kumar switched on to IT Industry. In 1982 he joined Wipro (a relatively unknown company at that time) as customer Service Engineer. In the next three years he moved on to the Sales and Marketing. The next 10 years saw his rapid growth from an Account Manager to Branch Manger and became Regional Manager and subsequently to General Manager at Wipro Bangalore, the Vice President Business Solutions division to finally to the job of Chief Executive Solutions & System Integration Division of Wipro Infotech.

Two years later he was handpicked by Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman as Corporate Vice President Six Sigma Quality and moved to the corporate office. His final assignment was as Chief Executive E-Enabling Division in Wipro Technologies when he made another calling in his career.

In 2000 he made a daring move to become an entrepreneur to start a new company Tarang Software Technologies along with two of his colleagues. He raised USD $5.5 Million through a V.C and built a beautiful development centre in Bangalore and set up sales office in California and New York.

Tarang Software acquired CyberCash India in a cash deal in 2001 and established themselves in Electronics Retail Payments space. Over the next 9 years Tarang established leadership in Mobile Payments, Contactless payments, POS payments and Payment gateways. It has a secondary domain in E-Learning where they have Infosys, Volvo and Wipro etc as their customers. Now in the 10th year it has blossomed in to a company with over 350 employees, earning USD $6 million in sales and being profitable every year.

Rama Kumar hailing from a Middle class family from Chetpet, Chennai did his early schooling from Madras Christian College School. He was a very good cricketer and captained MIT team. He is now happily married for 26 years. His wife Jayanthi is an Electronics Engineer and now works in a senior position with Wipro. They have been blessed with two boys. His elder son Rohit is now pursuing his MBA Program with IIM Lucknow and his second son Siddharth has just completed his MBBS program and doing his Internship.

THE OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2011

Rajam, is a unique Institution with pioneering ventures in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics, Instrumentation and by adding Production, Avionics, Mechatronics, Rubber Technology and Information Technology, MIT has carved a niche for itself.

In memory of Sri. C. Rajam, during his centenary birth year in 1982, AMITA instituted the scheme of conducting yearly endowment lecture and award of outstanding alumnus. This would be the twenty-seventh Alumnus award.

AMITA has the pleasure of selecting Dr. S. Shanmugavel of Electronics faculty as the outstanding Alumnus for the year 2011.

Dr. S. Shanmugavel did his B.Sc from Devanga Arts College Virudhunagar majoring in Mathematics and moved to MIT to study in Electronics faculty and passed out in the year 1978 and then obtained his PhD in the area of Coded Communication and spread Spectrum Techniques from IIT Kharagpur.

Dr. S. Shanmugavel worked as a Senior Research Assistant from Nov 79 to March 89 at the Research and Communication Center IIT Kharagpur in Sponsored Research Projects on Digital Communication and Spread Spectrum Technique. He joined the faculty of Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication IIT, as lecture in 1987 and moved as Assistant Professor in 1991 and later joined as Professor of Department of ECE Anna University since 2002. Now elevated to the position of Registrar, Anna University.

He has published more than 33 research papers in National and International journals. Given 80 conference papers on Mobile Adhoc Networks, Cellular IP networks, Broad Band ATM Networks and CDMA Engineering. He has guided in PhD Scholars.

He received IETC-CDIL award for the best paper published in IETC Tech review 2000. IETC-SK Mitra Memorial Award for the best paper published in IETC journal for Research in 2004.

Dr. S. Shanmugavel hails from a small place in Virudhunagar District and happily married to Smt. S. Vijayalakshmi for the past 29 years and they are blessed with an intelligent girl who is doing her final year BE in Madurai Kamarajar University. He is very keen in building human Relationship and keeps a very low profile.

THE OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2012

MIT, Chrompet campus of Anna University, founded in 1949 by Sri C.Rajam, is an unique institution and carved a niche for itself with pioneering ventures in unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Technology and subsequently adding Production Technology, Rubber and Plastic Technology, Information Technology and Computer science and Engineering.

During the centenary birth year of Sri C.Rajam in 1982, MITAA instituted the scheme of conducting yearly Endowment Lecture and award of outstanding alumnus in his memory and the current year is marked as the 29th year in succession.

This year 2012, MITAA has the pleasure of honoring Mr.Mohan Subramanian as the outstanding alumnus.

Mr. S. Mohan started his career in 1979 with Tata Electric, Trombay and worked in the Thermal power plants and desalination plants of Siemens. He joined Honeywell USA in the year 2002 that recognized his Leadership Qualities. In the year 2003 he became Senior Technical Manager of Yokogawa USA working as specialized technical advisor on technology related issues. In 2005 he joined Shell Global Solutions group USA at Texas, and was consultant for specialized control tuner systems for Oil and Gas projects.

In the year 2008, Mr. S. Mohan started the company called Montrol Automation based out in Houston, Texas, Specializing in Engineering and Design. Montrol Automation subsequently merged with a Total Plant Management Group, Which has grown into a 5 million dollar company in two years. The company presently has offices in Saudi Arabia, Trinidad and India in addition to the corporate office in Houston, USA, Providing support from the concept of engineering, manufacturing large control panels, metering skids and complete DCS/PLC System Engineering and field design.

Mr. Mohan to his credit has published papers in ISA POWID, US chapter and has won top project professional Golden Eagle Award from Honeywell USA and Entrepreneurship recognition award from city of Houston.

Total Plant Management Group and Montrol Automation are affiliated to a good number of charitable organizations.

 

Mr. Mohan hails from Kovai, Tamilnadu and graduated from the PSG college of Arts and Science, in the year 1973 with an university rank and first rank in the college. He graduated from the MIT(Instrumentation Technology) in the year 1979. He obtained professional engineering licenses from three states in the U.S

His father (Late) Dr. T.R. Subramaniam was a PhD in Agricultural Entomology and retired as Register of TNAU Kovai.

His wife Pushpa, works for an oil company, and Daughter Sharanya is a graduate of the Yale law college and works as an attorney in New York.
