THE OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS AWARD FOR 2024

Madras Institute of Technology, Chromepet Campus of Anna University, a unique Educational Institution was started in 1949 by Sri. C. Rajam to impart education on unconventional engineering courses like Aeronautical, Automobile, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering streams. During the birth centenary year of this great visionary Sri Rajam in 1982, MIT Alumni Association (MITAA) instituted an annual Endowment Lecture and also honoring an Outstanding Alumnus in Sri Rajam’s Memory.

MITAA has the pleasure of honouring Mr. N. Ramachandran of Electronics faculty, an alumnus from the 21st batch, with Outstanding Alumnus Award.

He did his B.Sc from Coimbatore. He is a 1972 Electronics graduate from the Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai. He has done Management education from the IIFT School of International Management and the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. He has also undergone a Management Development Program in International Trade Center, Geneva and attended the Duke of Edinburg Program for Future Leaders in Australia.

He has more than 50 years of experience in the Electronics Industry in varied capacities. He is now the Managing Director of MEL Systems and Services Ltd, a company engaged in Automation and Control, Defense Electronics and Automatic Test Equipment.

He has varied interests and is involved closely with the Alumni Associations of MIT and IIFT. He was a member of the Board of Governors of MIT. He spearheaded AMITA TRUST foundation which has a corpus of 5 crores plus today for the benefit of MIT students He is very active in CII, ELCINA etc. He was the past President of ELCINA, Past Chairman of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce, TN and is a member of the National Council of IACC. He is an active Rotarian.

Mr. N. Ramachandran is the recipient of many awards including the Outstanding Alumnus Award from IIFT, Distinguished Alumnus Award from Anna University, Outstanding Rotary President of the year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Electronics from EFY magazine and the Electronics Maker magazine. He is also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Electronics from ELCINA.

He has successfully organized, as the Chairman of the organizing committee, two mega events- Source India, Chennai and Strategic Electronics Summit, Bengaluru. He has always been the champion of “Make in India” and mentors lot of young entrepreneurs.

He highly values the unwavering support and love that his wife Kala, has always bestowed upon him for his tremendous growth and success. He has highly accomplished twin children, Rahul who works for NVidea in the U.S. and Dipika who is an alumna of MIT Madras, works for Amazon in Bengaluru. His daughter in law Dr Mansa works for Lam Reasearch in the US and his son in law Ranjith is a software specialist and is a Senior Manager at Amazon in Bengaluru. Rahul is blessed with a set of twins and Dipika has a daughter, an one year old bundle of joy.

MITAA takes great pleasure in honouring Mr. N. Ramachandran with the Outstanding Alumnus award in the year 2024 and wishes him all the good health and a very peaceful Life ahead.
